The Half-Sheet Problem
On every production, the end of the day tells the same story: Departments scribbling crew hours on departmental out-time half sheets of paper. Production Assistants waiting diligently by working trucks to run those back to the Assistant Directors, who build the production report and send it off to the production office. And hopefully, all the paperwork is legible, gets to the office appropriately, and there aren't any amendments that have to happen.
The real problem is wasting time to collect paperwork that can be done digitally today. Critical labor data passes through too many hands, pockets, and illegible scrawls before it reaches the people who actually process it. Daily TimeCards was built specifically because Production Assistants were either wasting their time waiting on other crews to finish their jobs, or departments simply left without turning in out times at all. When that happened, the information was lost and had to be chased down later.
From Script to Platform
The first version of Daily TimeCards was a custom Google Apps Script wrapped in a simple web interface and wired directly to a Google Sheet. It was simple and immediately effective. Departments submitted their hours from their phones at wrap, and the Assistant Directors and the production office had clean data before the last truck pulled away.
That proof of concept ran on a real production and proved one thing: Crews were happy to use a better system the moment one existed. What they needed was a purpose-built tool that handled the nuances of production: department specific positions, meal penalties, and revision tracking. That insight drove the development of the platform you see today.

He understands the pace, the pressure, and the chain of accountability that holds the shooting day together.
He built Daily TimeCards through ACE Films to solve the problems he watched repeat on every production, because the people closest to the problem are usually the best ones to fix it.
